On November 17, an information session was organized for representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the 13th session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13). The hybrid-format interactive event was attended by nearly 100 diplomats.
The main purpose of the session was to provide the diplomatic corps with detailed information on WUF13, scheduled to take place in Baku from May 17 to 22, 2026, including its objectives, preparation process, planned events, thematic dialogues, activities, as well as participation and collaboration opportunities.
During the event, Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture and National Coordinator of the Forum, emphasized the significance of WUF13, under the theme “Housing for All: Safe and Sustainable Cities and Settlements,” in strengthening international cooperation in sustainable urban development, and in showcasing Azerbaijan’s achievements and vision in urbanization to the world. He also highlighted that, for the first time in the Forum’s history, a Summit Meeting with the participation of heads of state and government will be held, reflecting Azerbaijan’s commitment to the global urban agenda.
In her video address, UN-Habitat Executive Director Anaklaudia Rossbach expressed gratitude to the Government of Azerbaijan for organizing the Forum, noting that WUF13 will be an important milestone for all partners to renew their commitment to ensuring adequate housing for all.
The event also featured comprehensive presentations by the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operating Company and UN-Habitat on the Forum’s concept and program, as well as the functional zones, infrastructure, and preparatory works to be established at the Baku Olympic Stadium, where the Forum will take place.
