Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met with the delegation visiting in our country and led by the Head of the Ireland-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Toni McCormack.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova recalled fondly as the conversation went on her visit to Ireland and the meetings held, including with Speaker of the Parliament of Ireland Verona Murphy in July last year, proceeding to mention the arrangement reached via those contacts to develop the ties between our Parliaments. She voiced her confidence that the current visit, too, will create a momentum behind the on-going development of the inter-parliamentary relations. Also, they stressed the importance of joint action in international parliamentary organisations.
Thanking for the invitation and the hospitality at a high level, Toni McCormack conveyed to the Speaker of the Milli Majlis the regards of Speaker Verona Murphy. It was said that there are opportunities to build closer links between our Parliaments. He also said that such visits and contacts served that purpose.
Besides, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis informed the guests of Azerbaijan’s democratic development and the successes achieved as well as the functioning of the legislative body and the Parliament’s international activities. It was emphasised that Azerbaijan’s independent foreign policy gives rise to favourable opportunities also for the Parliament to operate in the same field. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the numerous international events held in Azerbaijan, adding that Azerbaijan presented her own worldview at such international events, too.
The conversation saw an exchange of views upon the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalisation and peace process; besides, they reviewed other matters of shared interest.
