A delegation from the Azerbaijani parliament (Milli Məclis) concluded a visit to Germany on April 21–22, 2026. The delegation was led by Dr. Nurlan Hasanov, Chairman of the Working Group for Interparliamentary Relations with Germany. Other members included Kamal Jafarov, Dr. Gulshan Pashayeva, and Nigar Arpadarai.
The visit took place at the invitation of Mirze Edis, Chairman of the German–South Caucasus Parliamentary Group of the Bundestag.
At the outset, the delegation met with representatives of the Foundation for Fundamental Values and Mutual Understanding. This was followed by an exchange with the German–South Caucasus Parliamentary Group. Discussions focused on the current state of bilateral parliamentary relations, prospects for their further development, and other topics of mutual interest.
In addition, the delegation held talks with the Vice President of the Bundestag, Omid Nouripour, as well as with Dr. Tim Prange, Head of the Division for Bilateral Relations with the countries of Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe as well as Central Asia and the South Caucasus at the Federal Chancellery, and Dr. Niklas Wagner, Director for Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia at the Federal Foreign Office. The discussions focused on German–Azerbaijani cooperation—particularly in the areas of economy, energy, and new fields of collaboration—as well as the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and its importance for regional stability.
On the occasion of the visit, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany organized an “Azerbaijani–German Friendship Reception” at the Azerbaijani Cultural Center in Berlin. Members of the Bundestag, representatives of state institutions, media, and figures from academia, culture, and the diaspora attended the event.
Speeches at the reception were delivered by the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Germany, Nasimi Aghayev, Dr. Nurlan Hasanov, Mirze Edis, and Dr. Niklas Wagner. In their remarks, they unanimously highlighted the positive and constructive development of German–Azerbaijani relations. Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of a trust-based political dialogue, the dynamically growing economic ties, and the strong potential for further deepening cooperation across numerous areas.
Following the speeches, the program continued with a cultural segment. Guests were presented with selected specialties of Azerbaijani cuisine.
